Using the Community Builder Block

BuddyPress is a plugin that adds social features to your WordPress site. Using the Headway community builder block requires that you install BuddyPress, which is from the same company as WordPress and is free. Out of the box, BuddyPress includes community registration, member profiles, updates, friends, private messaging, and an activity stream.

Once you have installed BuddyPress, clickBuddyPress in the Settings menu. Work across the tabs to configure your community settings. Each component needs a WordPress page associated with it under the Pages tab. The layouts for these pages can be customized in the Visual Editor like any other WordPress page.

Note: If you’re signed in to WordPress, BuddyPress recognizes that you’re already registered and won’t load the registration page (even if
WordPress-to-BuddyPress profile syncing is switched off).

You aren’t required to use the community builder block to make BuddyPress work on your Headway site. Adding content blocks on the pages you associate with BuddyPress components, and leaving the default query in place, will display the default BuddyPress content on those pages.

The community builder block allows you to place some BuddyPress components on other layouts, such as in a sidebar. For example, the option to display which members are online would work well in a sidebar.
